Bruce Springsteen – Born in the USA.
Happy 4th, America-People. Here’s The Boss.

Broken Social Scene - Canada vs. America.
“Big guns are comin’ out…”
I’ll be honest, as far as indie music goes, Canada steals my hipster heart each time.

Jimmy Eat World - Just Watch The Fireworks.
“I promised I’d see it again. I promised I’d see this with you now.”
A beautiful early Jimmy Eat World song that will make you either feel special or lonely as fuck as the sky explodes tonight.

Voxtrot - Firecracker.
“Kick the wall, smash the lights, rip the shades, burn it all. Firecracker, firecracker.”
Firecrackers make really bad practical jokes — especially if you set someone’s hair on fire or blow off their toe.

Wilco - Ashes of American Flags.
“I would like to salute the ashes of American flags and all the fallen leaves filling up shopping bags.”
Listening to Wilco is as American as apple pie.

Bjork - Declare Independence.
“Damn colonists! Ignore their patronizing! Tear off their blindfolds, open their eyes! Declare independence!”
Granted, this song today is most likely a commentary on contemporary American politics, but I have a feeling our forefathers would genuinely love Bjork. I can imagine Benjamin Franklin totally listening to her in his 18th century iPod he invented.

Animal Collective - Fireworks.
“And I can’t lift you up cause my mind is tired, it’s family beaches that I desire, that sacred night where we watched the fireworks — they frightened the babies and you know they’ve got two flashing eyes, and if they are color blind, they make me feel, that I’m only what I see sometimes.”
I’d figure I’d start posting some songs for Independence Day… or, as I’d like to call it, Indie-pendence Day. Okay, I’ll stop now.

Holy Fuck - Choppers.
Holy fuck, Holy Fuck is holy fucking awesome.

Xiu Xiu - Clowne Towne.
Xiu Xiu is way too underappreciated in the indie rock world — just the way I like it.

Rilo Kiley - It Just Is.
GREAT LAST SONGS #37.
“It’s such a loss for the good guys afraid of this life, that it just is. ‘Cause everybody dies.”
I can’t find a more topical song for these days than this.

The Go! Team - Ladyflash.
SONGS THAT REMIND ME OF SUMMER #42.
I just want to dance in the streets each time I hear this.
